Brice Builders (BRB) is performing renovations at three Homeland Operations headquarters buildings known as AFNORTH at Tyndall AFB under a Sustainment, Restoration, and Modernization (SRM) contract awarded by USACE Mobile District. Located on Florida’s Gulf Coast, Tyndall AFB is home to F-15 and F-22 fighter squadrons and is an important test and training location for the US Air Force. In October 2018, Tyndall AFB was hit by the eye of Hurricane Michael— a Category 5 storm with sustained winds greater than 160 mph. Every structure on the base was impacted or completely destroyed.

Due to extensive hurricane damage, Tyndall AFB has become the first US Air Force installation with the opportunity for complete renovations to current codes/standards, as well as modernization. With the plan to become the Air Force “Base of the Future”, all structures and systems are designed for climate resilience, sustainability, and include smart technologies to maximize efficiencies.

After several months of design and site preparation work, BRB kicked off field construction in April 2020. BRB is performing roofing, masonry, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing, and installed new windows and doors at all three AFNORTH buildings. The work is being executed around active operations (the three buildings are occupied by ~350 US Air Force staff). To minimize disruptions, BRB meets weekly with a cadre of representatives from USACE, US Air Force 325th Civil Engineer Squadron, AFNORTH occupants and the offices of six Generals to coordinate and schedule activities around multiple Air Force functions.

To date, work has been executed in compliance with all requirements and expectations, as well as on schedule and budget.
